01 / Biography

Street energy meets pop optimism.

Thierry Guetta, known as Mr. Brainwash, is a French-born, Los Angeles-based artist whose practice brings together the immediacy of street art and the visual vocabulary of postwar pop. Recognizable cultural figures, saturated color, stenciled imagery, collage, and hand-painted gestures converge in works designed to feel direct, exuberant, and democratic.

His emergence was documented in Exit Through the Gift Shop, the Academy Award-nominated film that traced the evolution of the street-art movement. Since then, Mr. Brainwash has developed ambitious exhibitions, public projects, and collaborations across art, music, fashion, and popular culture.

02 / Practice

Mr. Brainwash artistic practice

Mr. Brainwash recontextualizes the symbols of mass culture through a layered studio language of stencil, spray paint, collage, found materials, and emphatic handwork. In Einstein (Love is the Answer), a familiar historical figure becomes the bearer of a disarmingly simple message; the cement support gives that message the physical authority of the street.

Je t'aime turns commercial packing labels into a dense red field before cutting through their repeated warnings with a direct declaration of affection. Together, the two unique works capture the tension that animates his practice: fragility and confidence, icon and gesture, spectacle and sincerity.
